Vienna - Billy Joe

For me “Vienna” has certain timelessness. It was released in the ’70s, but sounds like it could have come out yesterday. It talks about the questions that never really go away: what we want and what we need. What about getting older? How do we live our lives?

You got your passion, you got your pride
But don’t you know only fools are satisfied?

This is a very perplexing part. If only fools are satisfied, then whether you slow down (as Joel suggests) or speed up (as the subject of his song does), it wouldn’t make a difference because neither would be satisfying. Is it a criticism of people in hot pursuit of what they want, because they’ll never be satisfied? Or is it a criticism of people who are inert because they’re satisfied, saying they should have more goals?
I don´t have the answers, but trying to figure them out is part of the fun!
You all should have a look for any pictures of Vienna. I have already done it. And now I really want to go!!!!

Here it is the lyrics and the address, if you want to watch parts of the movie "13 going on 30", it's the film soundtrack.

Slow down, you crazy child
you're so ambitious for a juvenile
But then if you're so smart, tell me
Why are you still so afraid?

Where's the fire, what's the hurry about?
You'd better cool it off before you burn it out
You've got so much to do and
Only so many hours in a day

But you know that when the truth is told..
That you can get what you want or you get old
You're gonna kick off before you even
Get halfway through
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?

Slow down, you're doing fine
You can't be everything you want to be
Before your time
Although it's so romantic on the borderline tonight Tonight,...

Too bad but it's the life you lead
you're so ahead of yourself that you forgot what you need
Though you can see when you're wrong, you know
You can't always see when you're right. you're right

You've got your passion, you've got your pride
but don't you know that only fools are satisfied?
Dream on, but don't imagine they'll all come true
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?

Slow down, you crazy child
and take the phone off the hook and disappear for awhile

it's all right, you can afford to lose a day or two
When will you realize,..Vienna waits for you?
And you know that when the truth is told
that you can get what you want or you can just get old

You're gonna kick off before you even get half way through
Why don't you realize,. Vienna waits for you
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?

The Art of Self-Illusion

Downtown
Walking down the street
A cold rain falls from
Air conditioner equipment

I pretend they are raindrops
Touching my skin
Cleaning me
Of my sins

And while I'm developing
The Art of Self-Illusion
Life gets easier
I get self-confident

And while I'm developing
The Art of Self-Illusion
Happiness gets ready
You get closer to me

Downtown
Air conditioners cry
Sun behind the Sky
To find some happiness
I lie

The Art of Self-Illusion…
